Overseas Helper Interviews
Finding the right domestic helper starts with meeting her in person
In-Person Interviews. Careful Screening for Your Family.
We understand that hiring a domestic helper means welcoming a new member into your home. A CV alone cannot tell you everything about her personality, habits or practical abilities.
That is why the professional team at Cheers Employment travels overseas to meet candidates face to face. We take the time to get to know each applicant, assess her suitability and carefully screen her before making a recommendation—helping you find a responsible, trustworthy helper who fits your family’s needs.
Our Four-Step Selection Process for Greater Peace of Mind
Step 1: Personal Interviews to Assess Character and Attitude
Even the most impressive CV cannot fully reveal someone’s character. Our Hong Kong interview team conducts an in-depth, one-to-one interview with every applicant.
Beyond assessing her ability to communicate in English or Cantonese, we pay close attention to her tone of voice, manners, patience and personal hygiene habits.
We believe the right attitude makes all the difference. To pass this first stage, candidates must demonstrate a gentle manner, sincerity and a willingness to learn—qualities that help them settle into your household and build a positive relationship with your family.
Step 2: Thorough Background Checks to Verify Experience and Understand Motivation
When you invite someone into your home to care for your loved ones, safety comes first. We carefully check each applicant’s identity documents and employment history to verify the information she provides and identify any omissions or exaggerated claims.
We also take time to understand her family circumstances and reasons for working overseas, such as supporting her children’s education or improving her family’s living conditions.
Understanding a candidate’s background, responsibilities and motivation helps us assess her commitment to working abroad and suitability for a long-term placement.
Step 3: Hands-On Assessments to Verify Practical Skills
We do not simply ask candidates what they can do—we ask them to demonstrate it.
During our overseas interviews, we arrange practical assessments to evaluate their abilities in key areas, including:
- Infant care: Holding a baby correctly and preparing formula.
- Elderly care: Providing safe physical support and assisting with wheelchair use.
- Everyday household tasks: Demonstrating practical housekeeping skills.
We look for genuine, hands-on competence before recommending a candidate to your family.
Step 4: Pre-Arrival Training to Help Helpers Settle In
Moving to Hong Kong means adapting to a different culture and way of life. To make the transition smoother and reduce the amount of initial guidance required from employers, all successfully hired helpers must complete a preparation course before departure.
Designed specifically for working in Hong Kong households, the course covers:
- Typical Hong Kong homes and living arrangements.
- Local food preferences and dining habits.
- Basic Cantonese for everyday communication.
- Essential household safety and hygiene practices.
Our aim is to ensure your helper arrives with a practical understanding of life in Hong Kong, so she can settle into your home and support your family more confidently from day one.
